A New Kind of EMS
Change is never easy – but it’s essential. Without it, we can’t adapt, grow, or improve the way care is delivered. At Pecos Valley Public Services, we don’t claim to have a perfect, one-size-fits-all solution for transforming out-of-hospital care. What we do have is an approach that has captured the attention of key partners across New Mexico. The EMS Bureau, the Department of Health, and the state’s largest health insurance provider have all taken notice. In fact, that provider recently awarded us a significant grant to help us expand and refine our services – so we can continue building a stronger, more responsive system of care for our community.
Listen to podcast explaining the “Community EMS” approach:
As we grow, we’re looking for people who want to be part of this journey. Whether you have medical training or not, there’s a place for you in helping us shape the future of community-based care. If you are (or want to become) a medical professional (even if your license is expired), a social media expert, web-designer, bookkeeper or generally interested in doing something new – we want to hear from you.
Why join us?
Unlike many other agencies, our members own the organization. Every asset – response vehicles, SUVs, UTVs, medical equipment – belongs to the members. And it’s our members who decide how compensation will be structured.
Right now, we’re transitioning from an all-volunteer team to a more professional organization. That means we still have important details to work out, such as a pharmacy license, liability insurance for non-volunteer services and regulatory requirements. But that’s also the exciting part: as a member, you’ll have a voice in those decisions. You won’t just be “working for” an agency – you’ll be helping to build one that you (and your fellow members) “own”.
Here’s the bottom line:
We’re not asking you to give your time without ever seeing a return. We’re asking you to help shape an agency where you and your fellow members will decide how compensation looks once everything is set up. For now, that means investing just a few hours per month to help steer Pecos Valley in the right direction. We will pay for your insurance, training and equipment. We will also pay you a small “thank you” stipend up to amount allowed by law. Together, we can design an organization that reflects our community’s needs – and rewards the people who make it possible.
