Carnival Log file
This log file is a report on the activities of Pecos Valley Public Services during the Roswell,NM carnival from May 4h – May 14 2023.
Day 1, May 4th:
Setup of our place. We’re right at the entrance. We are planning to provide armbands for kids (we write the parents phone number on it) and maybe a 50:50 raffle. Show started at 6pm. Not too much going on, though we met a few interesting people and maybe even one or two new volunteers.
Volunteers on scene: 3
Day 2, May 5th:
Lot more people. We were asked and located one kid and provided a quick checkup on another. Again, many new good contacts. Show ran from 6pm to 11pm. There was a altercation right across from us but security cleared it right away. Those “AllState” guys are amazing.
Volunteers on scene: 3
Day 3, May 6th:
What a day. We were on site from 12pm to 11:15pm. Many people, but every thing went smooth. We fixed a few small scratches, helped to relocate a mentally challenged lady and gave out a few band aids. We also had the opportunity to talk to a number of really interesting folks. And .. we directed many people to the facilities. There are no signs. So people ask us. We’re ok with this.
Volunteers on scene: 3
Day 4, May 7th:
Nothing special to report. Lot’s of people, but everything went smooth. There was a scuffle and we had to patch up one participant (superficial injury), but that was not really an “event”.
Volunteers on scene: 2
Day 5, May 8th:
This was really a low day. Not many people around. We took the time to replace the halogen bulbs for the flood light with LEDs and cleaned the lenses. We also installed signs to promote our 50:50 raffle which netted us two! tickets sold. Yes – it was that busy 🙂
Volunteers on scene: 2
Day 6, May 9th:
Today was a “two for one” and the crowds were a little better. No medical emergencies and not a lot of raffle business either. There was a little action when law-enforcement arrested a couple of guys because at least one brought a gun to the carnival.
Volunteers on scene: 1
Day 7, May 10th:
Again – a quite evening with a low turn out. I have to admit it: It is quite a challenge to report to the carnival day after day. After all – as volunteers we do have day jobs and we do everything else when others celebrate their time off leisurely at home.
Volunteers on scene: 2
Day 7, May 11th:
We heading for the home stretch. Just a few more days. This day was relatively quiet. I was able to finish my book. That says it all now, doesn’t it? And no, we don’t provide medications. We were told to expect more people today, so we had more volunteers ready.
