Requirements and compensation

Requirements:

To join Pecos Valley Public Services, you must:

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Hold a valid driver’s license
  • Pass a background check

We may also conduct random drug testing in accordance with agency policy.

What we are looking for:

We are seeking individuals who want to grow with us. As a small but expanding agency, we have a wide range of needs. We welcome volunteers who can assist with organizational support – from social media management to bookkeeping and administrative tasks. Most importantly, we are actively seeking licensed medical responders who are willing to serve their community through Community EMS.

Stipends for licensed responders:

On February 14, the Board of Directors voted to establish a stipend program for licensed medical responders who dedicate significant time and effort to maintaining their certifications and serving with our agency.

These stipends are nominal payments — they are not wages and are not intended to replace income.

Currently:

  • Each scheduled standby event is compensated at $50, regardless of whether the volunteer is activated or provides patient care.
  • Total stipends are capped at $2,000 per calendar year per volunteer.

We recognize this is not a substantial amount of money. It is not designed to be. It is simply our way of saying “thank you” while remaining within the legal limits that protect volunteer status under applicable law.

Additional support:

In addition to stipends, volunteers get free uniform shirts and outer-wear, access to our Google Workspace, including their own email-address and other rebates we have negotiated. We may also reimburse approved expenses related to service and cover professional liability insurance for responders.
